Child Adoptions
Types of Adoptions
-
Contested Adoptions - Involuntary Termination of Parental Rights
Unfortunately, there are circumstances which could warrant the termination of parental rights if it is in the best interest of the child. If those circumstances are met, and it is in the child’s best interest for parental rights to be terminated, but a parent, or parents, are unwilling to voluntarily relinquish his or her rights, then a SAPCR may be pursued to terminate parental rights of a child and subsequently adopt the child.
-
Uncontested Adoptions - Voluntary Relinquishment of Parental Rights
If parental rights are not at issue and have either been previously terminated or relinquished, then the adoption process may proceed. Sometimes an uncontested adoption may involve one parent voluntarily relinquishing his or her parental rights.
-
Private / Agency Adoptions
In a private adoption, the child’s biological parents decide whom they would like to adopt their child. Sometimes a family member such as a grandparent will adopt the child with the parents’ consent. Other times an adoption agency will facilitate matching the child with an adoptive family at the biological parents’ direction. Private and agency adoptions typically involve infants at birth.

CPS Adoptions
When the Texas Department Family Protective Services becomes initiates a SAPCR, and the case results in the termination of parental rights, the children may become eligible for adoption.
